Week 9 October 17-21

9th week of school means that progress reports will be coming home soon.  Watch our for these reports that show your students academic progress at the mid six weeks.  Please sign and return these forms to your child's teacher promptly.

*Parent Education night is tomorrow night!!!  Grades K-2 will meet in the cafeteria from 6:30-7:00p.m. and grades 3-6 will meet in the cafeteria from 7:15-7:45.  Child care will be provided for those that need it.

*Our grade level t-shirts should be in by this Friday.  We are excited to have these and will be passing them out so our students can wear them to show their pride.  Please keep up with them as we will be wearing these to our field trip on Dec. 2 and also for Play Day at the end of the year.

This week in 2nd grade:

Spelling:  Words with c or k at the beginning.
city   kick   close   kept   corner   kangaroo   catch   kitchen   cast   kite   card   king

Grammar:  Subject/verb agreement.  Making sure that the subject of our sentences and verbs agree such as The girls ran. NOT The girls runs.

Writing:  Students will take a pice from their autobiography (weeks 1-3 of school) and expand upon a piece of it through prewrite and drafts.

Reading:  Fiction texts and story elements.  This week the elements of characters and setting are highlighted.

Math:  Adding pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters to a dollar.  We also begin graphs.  We will be making bar graphs and picture graphs and using them to answer questions.

Science:  Study of air continues with pinwheels, wind vanes, and kites to study the direction of air.

Social Studies:  Countries, states, and cities and the differences among them.
