Week 3 Sept. 6-10

Thank you to all the parents who came to Meet the Teacher Night.  We had a really great turn out and that makes us that much more excited about this year.

Please make sure you have returned all papers from the first week of school: attendance letter, code of conduct last page, nurse's form, and free and reduced lunch form if applicable.

Here are the topics for this week of study:

Reading:  Monitoring Comprehension - We want the students to understand what they are reading and to notice when things are not making sense.  We encourage them to stop and reread if a breakdown has occurred.

Spelling:  one syllable words with blends - plane   present   slept   skip   stamp   grin   fast   bend   flag   start   brake   start

Math:  Place Value - We introduce place value with base 10 blocks and the FLU board.  (F-flats, L-longs, U-units)  We also correlate the flats with 100's, longs with 10's, and units with 1's.  We encourage students to make the number in a variety of ways.  ex:  34:  3 tens 4 units; 2 tens 14 units; 34 units, etc.

Science:  our study on Air takes us into Air under water; parachutes; and pushing on air

Social Studies:  Continuing our study on communities and good citizenship, you child should be able to answer What is a Community and tell how good citizenship is being shown throughout the community.

As always if any questions feel free to call at 972-882-5101 or e-mail at
